Why can't I just book skin needling directly?

Accepted Answer

Because we don't know yet whether it's the right treatment for you, and neither do you. Pigmentation that looks like sun damage can be melasma, which some treatments aggravate. Texture that looks like scarring can be congestion, which needs a different approach entirely. The Skin Discovery Session takes 60 minutes, includes OBSERV imaging and a treatment on the day, and the $150 is fully redeemable — so it costs you nothing extra to find out properly first.

What does skin needling actually feel like, and is there downtime?

A numbing preparation is applied beforehand and most people describe it as a firm, prickly sensation rather than sharp pain. Afterwards the skin typically looks flushed — similar to mild sunburn — usually settling over 24 to 48 hours, though this varies with the depth used and your individual skin. You'll be given specific aftercare in writing, including sun protection, which matters more than people expect.

Is microneedling safe?

Accepted Answer

Performed by a trained clinician, at an appropriate depth, on skin that's been assessed as suitable, and with a sterile single-use cartridge, it has a well-established safety profile. The risks are real but manageable and mostly come down to three things: whether your skin was suitable in the first place, the depth and technique used, and whether the aftercare is followed. All three are covered before any treatment goes ahead. The needle cartridge is single-use, every time, opened in front of you.

How long will I be red for, and can I go to work the next day?

Accepted Answer

Most people look noticeably flushed immediately afterwards, similar to moderate sunburn, with that settling considerably over the following day or two. Light flaking around days three to five is common. Most people are comfortable at work the next day, though many prefer to book treatments so they have a quiet evening afterwards, and we'd suggest not scheduling anything significant within the first 48 hours. Depth, area treated and individual skin all affect this, which is why we'll give you a realistic expectation for your specific plan rather than a blanket answer.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what we're working on and how your skin responds, so we won't quote you a number before we've looked at it. Textural and scarring concerns are generally addressed over a course spaced several weeks apart, because the collagen response is gradual and cumulative rather than immediate. You'll get a recommended sequence in your skin plan, and it's reviewed as you go rather than fixed at the start.

I have melasma. Is skin needling suitable?

Accepted Answer

Possibly not, and this is genuinely important. Melasma is driven by hormonal and inflammatory factors rather than surface damage, and treatments that create controlled inflammation can sometimes aggravate it — especially in deeper skin tones where there's a higher risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation. It doesn't mean nothing can be done. It means the pigmentation needs identifying properly first, which is exactly what the OBSERV analysis is for.

Question 7

Can I have skin needling if my acne is still active?

Accepted Answer

Generally not across active, inflamed areas — needling there risks spreading bacteria and worsening inflammation. The usual sequence is to settle the active acne first and address the scarring afterwards. Doing it in the other order is a common and expensive mistake, and it's one of the more frequent reasons we recommend a different starting point.

What if you recommend something other than skin needling?

Accepted Answer

That's a good outcome. You'll leave with a written plan explaining what we found, what we'd recommend and why — whether that's needling, a peel, IPL, a Fusion treatment, a combination, or simply changing what you're doing at home first. The roadmap is yours to keep, whatever you decide.
